Saddleback United Soccer Club was established in 2006 by Joy Fawcett to create a unique soccer environment that combines excellent soccer training and a commitment to positive coaching.

Ultimately, we believe that in order to enable players to reach their full potential in soccer, we must help them develop a solid foundation that comes from personal character, relationships, excellent soccer fundamentals, understanding of the mental aspects of the game and most importantly a true love for the game of soccer.

In our opinion, youth soccer is not about winning games or championships. Rather it is about using the game to teach our kids some of the skills necessary to be successful in life.

Cal Poly Pomona Head Coach Joins the Saddleback United Staff

We are excited to announce the addition of Lance Thompson, Men's Head Coach at Cal Poly Pomona. Lance who will continue his position at Cal Poly will serve as a Senior Advisor for Saddleback United. Lance's main responsibility will be to develop a more comprehensive college recruiting program for Saddleback players. In our six years, we have found that the primary barrier to kids playing in college is knowledge of the recruiting process and getting connected with the right schools.

Most of the attention for the college recruiting process is focused on Division 1 schools. However, less than a quarter of the college playing opportunities are Division 1. There are some great schools with very strong academic programs that are Division 2, Division 3 and NAIA. But they go about the recruiting process in a very different manner that Division 1 schools. Lance's primary responsibility will be work with Saddleback families to guide them through the process whether it be Division 1 or otherwise so that all kids in our program that want to play in college can have the best chance to find the right opportunity.

Girls U14 Lightning Serves Dinner and Donates to “Friendship Shelter”

Players from Saddleback’s GU14 team, Coach Katie Frattone, and several parent volunteers were “Chefs for a Night” at the Friendship Shelter in Laguna Beach. Friendship Shelter is a homeless shelter that supports 38 men and women through a 60 day self-sufficiency program by providing a home, 3 meals daily and a wide range of other support services. Saddleback players helped prepare a healthy and delicious roasted chicken dinner accompanied with steamed vegetables, garden salad and homemade corn bread muffins with cranberries. The girls had lots of fun while rubbing elbows together in the kitchen... it was true teamwork! Read more
