Team FENSE participates in Special Olympics Summer Games 2009

On June 14th, 2009 ten members of Team FENSE (GU15) volunteered for the Special Olympics Summer Games. This is a very special event and it was a privilege for Saddleback United to be a part of it.

The girls were delegation escorts and scorekeepers for the Olympic Golf event in Long Beach. Each girl was assigned to an athlete and escorted them through the nine hole course, while encouraging the athlete and counting strokes. All of our girls befriended their athlete, while showing them love and compassion which they so richly deserve.

After the event, the girls stayed to watch the first round of athletes receive their medals. They were able to see firsthand the joy and sense of accomplishment their new friends felt while being honored by the Special Olympic committee, as well as their friends and family.

It was enormous honor to be able to serve at this amazing event, and Team FENSE girls should feel proud in the way they represented themselves, their families and their club. We are excited about returning to volunteer next year.

On behalf of the girls and their parents a special thanks to Stephanie Flynn for all her hard work in organizing the event.

Saddleback Players Volunteer at Laura’s House

Several members of the Saddleback United GU16 team the "Strikers" volunteered their time July to work at Laura's House Thrift Shop in San Clemente. Laura's House provides vital support and education in an effort to reduce domestic violence and helps those affected by family violence.

Laura’s House Thrift Store is a key revenue source that funds the organization’s services and operations. The players helped sort donated items, stocked shelves, and were able to see how much work and effort it takes to make these types of services available.

Saddleback Food Drive

For the first time in 19 years, the South County Outreach food pantry ran out of food. To help out Saddleback United families collected over 762 pounds of food!!! Way to go Saddleback Families. And a special thanks to Kevin & Carol Donahue, George & Heidi Castillo, Vic & Angie Taylor, Stephanie Flynn, Mary Pat Hiller and many others for helping to gather and transport the food.
